Germany has proved to be our home away from home. We have spent a fare bit of time with friends in Oldau and Nufringen. Ingo & Birgit (Oldau) and Walter & Karina (Nufringen) were both incredible hosts, sharing their homes and families for over a week. We met Walter and his biker buddies at a B&B in France. Pretty cool experience considering these were all friends he established at the age of 6 and they have taken their Harley's on a different tour every year for decades. Walter insisted we give him a call when traveling in the Stuttgart area. Thank goodness we did as we now have very good friends we hope to stay in touch with for life. One of the other biker buddies invited us to their home for their annual bike BBQ in which I introduced the North American tradition of Happy Hour! The concept had immediate acceptance and we managed to drain a bottle of vodka or two. The German Bikers were all friends from school, now doctors, oral surgeons and engineers. We were sad to leave and are hoping for a reunion in 2009 when I convinced them to bring their Harley's to Canada for a ride through Alberta and BC.
We are now in Munich and are heading to Austria for a few days and then on to Switzerland. We rented an apartment in Tuscany for 6 weeks beginning August 18 and both Leslie and I are looking forward to putting our feet up and not having to worry about seeking new accommodation on a daily basis. Everyone we have met so far both in North America and Europe all rave about Italy! I cannot imagine topping our experiences so far...all have been fantastic!
