Spain has definitely felt devastating effects from the 2008 Global Financial Meltdown. Many of the condominiums that were being snapped up by the Brit's & Germans are in bankruptcy and there is no sign of improvement anytime soon. The layback attitude of the e Spanish is very reminiscent of the Mexican Cousins. Our experience at the Marriott Marbella in 2007 was a very tough act to follow and although our condo is quite nice, there is no comparison and we regret that we could not repeat our experience of 2007 at the same digs. The holiday season is definitely winding down and the locals are telling us that in another couple of weeks, things will slow down dramatically, opening up lots of affordable accommodation and the beaches will basically become deserted. It would be a great time to be here.
We are savouring our last 11 days of sun and heat before we start making the 2000 kilometre trek back to Paris to catch our flight to Calgary on September 29. It's going to be a long 3 day drive! If we ever do this again, we will be flying directly to Malaga, not driving.
