Bordeaux is interesting. Our day started at 11:40 am, when we woke up! I could not believe my eyes when I looked at my watch this morning after stumbling out of bed. I don't think we have slept in this late in 30 years. We only had our room at the hotel for one night so we booked another hotel stay with an affiliate chain, Hotel Premier Classe, which was not so premier and definitely not classy. It is extremely busy here and quite tough to get a room for some reason. When traveling for the length of time we do, you will definitely have these types of experiences, especially traveling to places where there are major cultural differences. There is also a bit of a language barrier in this part of France as well. In any event, we will survive and had a great day in spite of the room change.
Bordeaux has a beautiful river walkway system that is quite famous and some of the architecture downtown is pretty amazing. Looks like a major revitalizing program is taking place with the majority of the historic buildings and cathedrals being sandblasted to their original state with many are undergoing some significant renovations within the strict guidelines of Unesco. Some of the most expensive shopping in Europe is in Bordeaux so you may want to keep your wife away from here!
We ended up spending most of the afternoon and evening walking along the river and through the various attractions within the village. Will take in some more sites tomorrow and the on to the Mediterranena on Thursday. Leslie found us what appears to be a beautiful little B&B by the sea so hopefully the photos do it justice. Hard to believe another weekend is almost here.
