Great breakie and on the road! Today we covered four countries, Germany, Austria, Switzerland & Italy, final destination Griante in Lake Como region. Man do those Germans know how to drive and FAST! We were on the Autobonn for part of the trip and the "Racing"Peugeot was dangling at 150K and the Mercedes and Beamers were passing me like I was standing still. Had to be going 200 kms plus! Germany is really awesome and certainly is one of our most favourite countries. The guys have really got their "schieza" together. Organized, clean, great road systems and the economy seems to be booming. The people are extremely friendly. Leslie & I were dining at an authentic German restaurant in the country side last night and couldn't understand the menu which of course was in German. Within seconds, two couples got up and came to our table and acted as enterpretors. Ended up having a fantastic meal and some good conversation with the locals as usual.
The trip to Como was breath taking. The scenic route through the Swiss Alps is absolutely spectacular! The vistas from the summits of the mountain passes are unsurpassed. We were not very impressed with Switzerland when we visited earlier on in our trip but our opinion certainly changed today. Austria of course is like a postcard, the greenest grass and hillsides that remind you of Ann of Green Gables. We always enjoy Austria. Returning to Lake Como was like old home week as we checked into the same apartment we had back in June and it was like we never left. What a change in the weather from leaving Germany at 13 degrees C to Griante at 27 degrees and sunny. We are looking forward to a lot more of that as we start making our way to Southern Spain tomorrow via Provence
