Dracula's Castle SUCKS and not only your blood. This is the tourist trap of all traps. I think I finally figured it out. When you enter a venue and immediately spot a "tacky tourist train", RUN!! It's a tourist trap/scam.
The drive from Pitesti to Bran was relaxing and insightful with lots to see traveling the scenic mountain route. Even though it is a weekend, traffic was moderate along the winding tree covered roads. I knew the moment we arrived in Bran that we were in for another crowd pleasing event in the "tacky tourist zone". We waited in line for approximately 1/2 hour to pay the $50 RON or $17 CDN. Even if it was free, I would not return. Rude people lining up to take photos of nothing. I couldn't wait to escape. Leslie had to hold me back a couple of times as I was ready to plow some ignorant a*#holes. I don't know why we keep torturing ourselves with these places? I HATE THEM!! Let me mingle and BS with the locals and I am happy.
To add insult to injury, we made another stop at Rasnov Citadel/Castle and guess what...yes another tourist trap, not quite as bad as the first. The worst part of this experience is it was pissing down rain and by the time we climbed to the top of the castle entrance, we looked like a couple of drowned rats. I think by this time we both agreed that we were ready to find our apartment and do some laundry. Laundry would definitely be more exciting than Dracula's Castle or Rasnov Citadel. Do you think I'm whining? One thing we do know, we love the country and the Romanian people.
