Today was a fabulous day! As usual, we found another hidden gem quite by accident about an hour out of Versailles. We left the hotel a little late and with an 8 hour drive a head of us, we would not arrive in Bordeaux until after 8 pm. So much for that idea! From a distance off the country road, we could see an enormous cathedral. Leslie is very big on cathedrals and castles and just when we thought we saw them all, this one appears out of nowhere. We decided to stop and take a look and I am glad we did, Chartres is a beautiful historic village located 96 kilometers southwest of Paris. If your ever headed to Bordeaux from Paris or Versailles, this is definitely a worth while stop. The cathedral was spare by the bombing of World War 2 when an American Army office challenged his orders to destroy it, thank God! This was 1000 times more enjoyable than yesterday's visit to the chateau de Versailles and it was FREE! Remember, "the best things in life are free!!
