Outrageous Cab Fares

Taxi fare from Kelowna "International" Airport to downtown $44.00, maybe 10 miles at the most. WHAT??? In this hokey little town, cab fares rank amoung the highest in the world. It is cheaper to hail a cab in New York or Paris for that matter. I guess this is not surprising when you only have one cab company competing for business in Kelowna.

If I were travelling to Kelowna, I would look for every available mode of transportation other than a taxi!

Kelowna is a Rip-Off! It's not only the "Outrageous Cab Fares", let's talk about "Ridiculous Accommodation Rates", "Gas Station Gouging", to name a few.

My family and I have been vacationing in Kelowna for the past 4 years. Every business I have talked to this year is saying business in down dramatically over the past 2 years. I can tell you why.

Gas stations bump the price of gas up to 8 cents a litre (15 cents a gallon) for holiday weekends, case & point, the past August 1 long weekend, prices went up 8 cents a litre for no apparent reason.

The resort we have been staying at for the past few years is now $560 per night. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I can go to an all inclusive resort with the entire family, for 2 weeks in Mexico for less than this.

We will not be returning to Kelowna anytime soon. The merchants of this city better wake up before it is too late. It will be difficult to win the tourists back once they have found an alternative holiday location at a reasonable cost.

WEST SIDE GO CARTS...

Our family visited Westside Go Carts on Friday and this has to be the biggest rip-off I have ever encountered. I guess I can only blame myself for not exploring the place before I committed at the cash register after walking in the door. The casher quoted $28 for 8 minutes on the track and I was ready to walk out the door then but my kids got on my case and I relented. I noticed the signs everywhere indicating no refunds and that should have raised some red flags. We walked out the back door to an absolute "PIG STY"! I was afraid to touch anything and the place was in total disrepair. The mini golf was a joke, the go carts were nasty. As it turned out, my kids would not go on the cart and I left with a rain check, $22.00 thrown out the window as we will never return.

I really do not know how this operation can remain in business. The health board and health & safety should be all over them.

We happen to live on the West Side so after receiving our post, I made a trip to West Side Family Go Karts. You were very accurate with your assessment. I drive by the place almost every day but seldom see anyone there yet yesterday was obvioulsy an exception. The place is very dirty and the equipment looks a little sketchy to put it mildly. The kid's climbing treehouse in particular look pretty discusting. This place is definitely in some desparate need of TLC but as long as the crowds come, I doubt to see a major difference in the appearance or cleanliness.

In terms of Health & Safety Regulations, I believe this business in operated on First Nations Land and do not know if the same laws, rules and regulations apply.

My wife and our grandchildren went to West Kelowna Go Carts today. The place is a total dump, so filthy I was afraid to touch anything. We were the only ones there, probably for good reason, 4-5 laps around the tiny track was $20. Yes, a rip-off, never to return again.
