Yesterday we spent 1/2 the day traveling from Serbia to Romania and the other half negotiating the twists, turns and steep incline of the Transalpinia Highway. The route took us to the highest point in Romania with some breath taking views from the summit. The best way to cap off an incredible day is to arrive at your accommodations and they surpass all your expectations. The hosts Valentino, Carmen and their 12 year old son Razvon made us feel like family from the moment we arrived. The hotel absolutely beautiful and nestled in tiny ski village on the Transalpinia Highway. If we didn't have a 4 hour drive ahead of us, we could have stayed and talked for hours.
The second half of the Transalpinia was every bit as good as the first. Leslie wanted to try her driving prowess on the steep trail and she did great, even though I think I may have whip lash from a few sudden stops and starts!! I was hoping to get a picture of the wolf we saw yesterday but he managed to elude us. We arrived at our apartment in Sibiu at approximate 4:30 pm and once again Navi Biach didn't take us quite to the spot. A few young kids saw that we were lost and offered to help us find our digs. After about 15 minutes of searching the hood for the right apartment, one of the boys offered to call our landlord from his cell. Dana appeared within minutes to guide us to our suite. A few minutes later she appeared at the door with a welcome gift, a bottle of the local hooch, the same spirit that Valentino offered me last night. Of course, I had to indulge to calm my nerves! Great people, fabulous sites, good food and fine spirits. What more could you ask for?
