I cannot begin to say enough good things about the young man who is our host in Sarajevo. Never in my life have I met a kinder, generous and considerate human being. From the moment we arrived on his doorstep he has been there to accommodate us in every way and not expecting one thing in return. Edin is a law student at Sarajevo School of Law. His lovely girlfriend Anna is an Economics Major who works at a local bank. When we arrived yesterday Edin was there to help us with our bags. I told him my Seagate External Hard Drive quit on us, the third HD in as many years. He asked if he could have a look and try to fix it for us. After an hour he indicated the drive was dead but offered to take me to a few computer shops and get us back in business. Last night he offered to take us to Old Town Sarajevo and offered us a parking spot right in the heart of town that his sister had access to. On the way to the parking spot, he drove us to 3 computer shops in an attempt to get our drive fixed. Unfortunately, it was toast. He then directed us to the entrance to the Old Town and gave me his cell phone to call him if we needed anything. We asked if him and Anna would be interested in meeting us sometime this afternoon for lunch or dinner. He offered to take us to a "hookah" bar for an experience we have never had. It was actually pretty good. He insisted on picking up the tab and would not let us pay. Leslie and I went back to the apartment and told Edin & Anna that we were taking them for dinner and that will be happening at 10 pm tonight. Can you believe us two old farts are going out for dinner with the kids at 10 pm. We are normally sleeping by then!! We arrived back at the apartment about 5 pm and a half an hour later there was a knock at the door. Edin is at the door insisting on the keys for my car to wash it. He would not take no for an answer. He is washing as I sit on my but writing this blog!! These people are amazing! I forgot to mention that Morris at the Apple Store would not take a nickel for spending 40 minutes trying to repair our hard drive. I doubt you would have this experience in North America. It is an ongoing struggle with Bosnians financially. The average citizen earns approximately $400 Euro a month but everyone is happy and never complain. Prices on most items seem to be the same or more than Canada so we are not sure how they do it. This is a country that has experienced unspeakable atrocities & hardships but continues to struggle to regain its position as a world market. Edin, you are the "Ultimate Survivor Bosnia" and Leslie and I feel blessed to have met you and Anna!

Well... What to say about travelers who traveled ALL AROUND THE WORLD and and came to my apartment? It was a PLEASURE to welcome Glen and Leslie. There are no enough POSITIVE words to describe my new friends (Glen and Leslie)... Saying that they are CLEAN, TIDY, SO SOCIAL, FRIENDLY is such a cliche... BECOMING A FRIEND with Glen and Leslie after a few minutes is just a little "piece" of describing them. They are welcome to stay ANYTIME at my house. I AM SURE WE ll stay in touch.

Edin, you are too kind and one of a kind! You have a human quality that very few possess. We feel honoured to have met you and Anna and proud to call you good friends. You showed us a great time in Sarajevo and left us with memories we will never forget. We only hope we can return your generosity and hospitality some day! Bless you both...

I have always been a straight shooter and a go getter. Many have said Leslie must be a saint to have put up with me for over 40 years. We have been business partners since the day we got married and each played an intrigal roll in our business success. There is nothing more important to us than our Family & Friends. Our love of people and travel has allowed us to develop amazing friendships around the world. Archives
